SaVoa Update Feb. 11, 2010
for SaVoa Members

A Message from SaVoa's New President: Rowell Gormon

Greetings, all:

You may be too young to remember a satirist/singer named Allan Sherman ("Hello Muddah, Hello Faddah"), but he once did a live concert LP with the Boston Pops in which he actually conducted the orchestra.

As part of his introductory remarks, he told the audience, "You have no idea the insane feeling of power one gets...standing here waving a stick at 140 professionals who know what they're doing!"

While I've been doing voices since I could talk and have been getting paid for it regularly since the late 60s, I approach being the newly-selected President of SaVoa in much the same way.  Most of you have been in the organization, if not the business, longer than I have.

So you won't be hearing any big, firery manifestos of radical change from me.  Seems like a lot of what's in place is working quite well.  I do have a few ideas and will offer them when appropriate.  I also plan to help out where my talents and experience could benefit the group.  At other times, I expect to listen and learn a lot.

Mainly, I'm hoping my association with SaVoa will prove as valuable and satisfying as the interaction I enjoy among talented professionals here in my own market.  We know and respect each other, we offer help when it's asked for, and are quick to recommend trusted friends.

You can contact me by email via rg@voices2go.com, or phone me direct at (919) 779 1476.  If I'm not in the studio or near the phone, just leave word with my audio butler.

Let's see what we can build from the solid foundation that's been put in place.

Note: Ed Gambill will remain on the SaVoa Executive Board in the position of Secretary/Treasurer

Dear Member,

When SaVoa was established in 2007, we knew the time was ripe for what we offered.  That’s why you joined.  Right?

We’re moving ahead. With everyone’s participation and energy we can grow SaVoa’s numbers and make the impact we set out to make:  To establish and maintain an accreditation program for voice over artists, and to support continuing education for the advancement of the voice over industry.

To live up to that vision, we need to expand our ranks. That’s going to require recruitment above and beyond word of mouth, referral and stumbling upon our website.

We’ve taken a few steps to improve that with our social networking efforts on Twitter, Linked-In, Facebook and Voice Over Universe. But there’s nothing like face-to-face contact with potential members, not to mention, ourselves!

VOICE 2010 is coming June 2nd in Los Angeles. Many of our members have attended the two prior VOICE conferences in Las Vegas and last year in Century City. This year’s will be even bigger! While we all know it’s an expensive undertaking for many, the payback is more than worth it. VOICE’s core values are: Technology, Education, Networking – pretty close to SaVoa’s vision.  Putting the two together just makes perfect sense.

Meeting and making friends at VOICE led to more business for each of us who’ve attended, and on a more personal level, it enriched our lives and exposed us to a world of professional experience. We all share a common bond of Voice Over. It’s amazing what happens when we get together!

The producers of VOICE 2010 want SaVoa to have a presence there. They’re offering us discounts on presenting our organization to our DIRECT market – other Voice Actors. We’ll have our own booth, banner and promotional items along with planning special events to let experienced Voice Over artists know that we are worth joining. Despite what you might hear or think, VOICE 2010 is not just for newbies! The more SaVoa members who show up and help in this effort, the lower our cost, and the greater our overall gain!

Here’s our chance to have a SaVoa get together and actually shake hands with our fellow members and get to know each other better than just what we see on our websites, while still enjoying a 3 day party that you simply don’t want to miss! .

Lets show up in numbers in LA and push SaVoa to the next level!

We encourage you to register, make your travel plans, and be there as a fellow professional as well as a proud SaVoa member!

Members-Only – A place to call your own
NOTE: SaVoa members, you will need your PIN emailed to you in your personalized Feb 2010 Update to complete registration.

SaVoa members have so much in common, but no place of their own to share it.

…until now.

A conversation in an Advisory Board meeting recently touched on how SaVoa members could best express their feelings & thoughts about issues that affect us all.

The conversation generated an idea to provide an online forum JUST for SaVoa members to interact, share, chat, exchange ideas, and generally kibitz.

That forum is now reality.  If you’re a member of VoiceOverUniverse, you will recognize the online site we’ve constructed for SaVoa members only.  It’s a Ning online community just like VU, called SaVoaPro.  I’m sure you’ll see a lot of familiar names there.

Log onto http://SaVoaPro.org and sign-up today.  Advisory Board members have already taken the site for a spin, and believe it has potential for us as a supportive community of accredited VO professionals.

Share pics!  Write blogs!  Post Demos!  Start discussions!  It’s YOUR place.

Each registrant on the site is compared to the SaVoa member list to ensure that ONLY SaVoa members are allowed in.  We’re not trying to be snobs, just exclusive enough to perhaps encourage others to join SaVoa.

{FirstName}, If you have suggestions for how the SaVoaPro site might be improved, please write Dave Courvoisier at CourVO@CourVO.com and fire away…OR, sound-off on the site, and see what others have to say about your ideas.
